Going missing is a dangerous activity and linked to a range of safeguarding concerns such as grooming, child sexualisation, trafficking and radicalisation. A child or young person who goes missing just once faces the same immediate risks as faced by a child or young person who regularly goes missing. However, children who go missing when they are young (and/or more frequently) are more likely to face longer-term problems.
Learning Objectives:
- To define the term ‘missing’ for young people and the risks this poses
- To understand the process for safeguarding children who go missing from home
- To understand the role of the Independent Return from Missing Interview Team
- To identify additional support services for young people returned from missing.
