An opportunity for people from local charities and community groups to get together and discuss issues affecting us. We're often also joined by colleagues from the local statutory sector, such as Redbridge Council and the NHS.
This month's meeting - Migrants and Refugees, plus Mental Health Issues
Global political and economic instability has increased the number of people moving about the globe, of whom a small number come to Britain. Recent events such as those in Afghanistan have highlighted why people become refugees and need support. We'll hear from RAMFEL, the borough's largest organisation working with migrants and refugees, and also from Wanstead and Woodford Migrant Support.
We'll also hear from the local NHS about how people with mental health issues can access talking therapies, a vital issue when the pandemic has caused extra stress for everyone. In particular, NHS staff want to give people a chance to say how accessible the service is and how it can be best promoted.
About the Voluntary Sector Network
We normally hold monthly meetings in Ilford Library. Until further notice we're holding these meetings online using Microsoft Teams software. You need a computer with speakers and a microphone. You don't need to install Teams on your computer - you can join the meeting using your web browser. If you don't have a computer, or if you prefer, you can also install the Teams app on your phone and use that.
At each meeting we'll discuss the experiences our member organisations are having during the pandemic. You'll hear what RedbridgeCVS and Redbridge Council are doing, and have a chance to say what support you need from us. We'll also provide information about funding to help you respond to the crisis, and provide some basic IT tips and information.
Anybody involved with a local community group or charity is welcome. You don't need to register - just on the day. You'll need a computer with a camera and microphone, plus speakers or headphones - most modern laptops will be fine. We use Microsoft Teams - you don't need to install any software, just use your web browser.
