Voluntary Sector Network - Women

Wednesday, 1 September, 2021 - 10:00 to 11:30

An opportunity for people from local charities and community groups to get together and discuss issues affecting us. We're often also joined by colleagues from the local statutory sector, such as Redbridge Council and the NHS.

This month's meeting - Women

Everyone has become more aware in the last few years about issues affecting women. The #MeToo movement has highlighted the extent of sexual violence and harassment of women, the pandemic has seen an increase in domestic violence and women's health and wellbeing remains a crucial issue. Speakers at this meeting will address some of these issues and report on the work they are doing:

  • Redbridge Council has launched a new online Women's Resource
  • The Council has also conducted listening events for women and girls on how Redbridge can be made safer
  • Aanchal Women's Aid works with women who have experienced domestic abuse and helps them to rebuld their lives
  • Vision Redbridge is launching a project to help women be more active if they have experienced domestic abuse, just had a baby, have young children or feel low or isolated. Activities include dance, self-defence, walks and yoga.

About the Voluntary Sector Network

We normally hold monthly meetings in Ilford Library. Until further notice we're holding these meetings online using Microsoft Teams software. You need a computer with speakers and a microphone. You don't need to install Teams on your computer - you can join the meeting using your web browser. If you don't have a computer, or if you prefer, you can also install the Teams app on your phone and use that.

At each meeting we'll discuss the experiences our member organisations are having during the pandemic. You'll hear what RedbridgeCVS and Redbridge Council are doing, and have a chance to say what support you need from us. We'll also provide information about funding to help you respond to the crisis, and provide some basic IT tips and information.

Anybody involved with a local community group or charity is welcome. You don't need to register - just join the meeting here on the day. You'll need a computer with a camera and microphone, plus speakers or headphones - most modern laptops will be fine. We use Microsoft Teams - you don't need to install any software, just use your web browser.
